Tracks in Bass Pro store floor

Tracks in Bass Pro store floor - 12/05/08 12:45 PM

I visited my first Bass Pro store the other day. My head was on a swivel trying to see everything in between dodging the crowd of Christmas shoppers. Among other things I finally noticed in the Manteca CA store were short runs of animal tracks embedded in sections of the concrete floor on both the first and second levels.

Is this a standard thing? Is there a guide to these tracks?

The reason I ask, is the Sacramento CA tracking and skills group to which I belong will probably make an after holiday expedition to the Manteca CA store to check out gear and study the tracks.

Thanks.

I did not notice any tracks in the Bass Pro by Omaha. I'll have to look down next time I'm there.

I recall that I've seen them in both the Rancho Cucamonga and Silverton Casino (Vegas) locations.

The Bass Pro in Tempe, AZ has the tracks in the floor. I am guessing this is standard. There is a flyer that describes the prints but I can't recall that they are easy to find in the store.

They use Cougar, duck, beaver, bears, coyote/wolf, deer, the usual prints you may find in the back country. My son (age 5) and I like to follow them and discuss what they are doing.

Funny you mention Bass Pro. We are taking my son there this weekend for his annual Christmas photo with Santa Claus.

comms, if you hit the Tempe store and have a moment to track down the flyer I would appreciate knowing its title, etc. [The customer service folks in Manteca told me there is no such thing for their store.]

Thanks.

Yes, it's standard. If you follow the track long enough they will lead to an image of the critter that theoretically made them. My 5 year old daughter has a great time following them all over the store.

The Sacramento group and I will try not to look at the names and pictures until ater we try to identify the species, sex, and relative age and health of each critter from the tracks alone.
