You simply have to see this, words alone can't describe the surreal nature of it - make sure you read the description of what you're seeing.

Kind of like Boy George meets Flock of Seagulls meets The B-52s.

Great video.

Funny, but the former proletariat would never have allowed such distasteful displays.

As someone who grew up during the cold war of the 60's and 70's, it's kinda like watching a bunch of former Mercury astronauts operating a carnival ride at a county fair in Iowa.

Somewhat sad in a bizarre sort of way.

@martinfocazio

cool I´m very curious how you found out about this band, being from Finland myself.
By the way, here is a couple of videos of the same band a few years earlier, before they became Leningrad Cowboys. They originally called themselves Sleepy Sleepers.

Thanks for the compliments. If you start from Turku and follow the coast some 400 km to the north you end up in my hometown Kokkola.

>I´m very curious how you found out about this band, being from >Finland myself.

There was a film released in the 90s 'Leningrad Cowboys Go America', we got it in the UK. So their fame has spread further than you think.

I worked in Helsinki and the Finns really took the cold war seriously. But being 'neutral' they tried not to upset the russians. So their preparations for war were unofficial. Helsinki has a vast subway system, with stations big enough for shopping centres. All this in a city with no traffic problems. But if you look you can see the blast doors retracted into the wall as you go in. There is a 'swimming pool' they hollowed out of a hill and we were shown round the fall out shelters in the fire drills.
Think they'd have been the last men standing if it had all gone wrong.
It's a beautiful city to visit and if you think Finnish women are beautiful (Cameron Diaz wouldn't get a second look walking down the street), visit Estonia just across the Baltic.
