Article about Coast Guard Auxiliary - 03/30/08 10:07 PM

I know we have some Coasties and I just ran across this news article about a couple San Francisco Bay Coast Guard Auxiliary members. Actually, I had no idea that there was a Coast Guard Auxiliary so just educating the public that there is one is a good thing. Normally you think of something like a police auxiliary, but I had never heard of any of the armed forces having an auxiliary. These CG Auxiliary members provide their own boats even. Like Martin was mentioning the other day, one valuable perk to public safety work is all the free training available.

The USCG Air Auxiliary also supplies their own aircraft.

The USAF has the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and they also use their own aircraft.

The auxiliaries provide public education and a major Search and Rescue contribution.
