Well, I don't have a specific answer to the question, but I always thought they were darn close to a candy cane, IMHO.

Why not try making it for yourself?

I am trying to remember the ingredients:
dextrose
glucose
mint flavor

Find a site that tells you how to make various kinds
of candy like soft, semi-hard, hard.

Any appreciable heat turns sugar to caramel and there
was no caramel-type flavor or consistency; so, I think,
very little heat, if any, is used.

I love caramel, but it is not good for survival:
1)pulls fillings and caps off of teeth
2)harder to digest
3)constipating

Maybe Kendall Mint Cake is constipating also, though I
doubt it. I never ate enough at one time to find out.

If they have it in the US, your best chance would be Bestglide.

There are 2 bars in a BCB emergency ration pack.

(Kendalls mint-cake tastes great.)

I surfed the web a bit and couldn't find a domestic source, either. Anyone interested in a group buy?

I just sent an e-mail to them, to find if there is an US distributor...

Wikipedia has the instructions on making it...

Try british import shops. Many have extensive selections of tea, digestives etc.

Having just read the Wikipedia entry I must ask if the Kendal mint cake is the same thing as a York brand peppermint patty?

The Kendal mint cake is harder inside -- more like a Heath toffee bar than a York peppermint patty (which is nice and squooshy). I had some Kendal mint cake for the first time this spring (in Northumberland) and it was a seriously intense sugar rush.

So it would be worth trying then? I ask because my Brother in Law starts a new job tomorrow and it includes three weeks of training in London. Sounds like I should ask him to pick up a box. grin

Actually, it was *too* sugary for me ... I ate all the chocolate off the outside, but ended up binning most of the (mint/sugar) inside.

Kendal mint cake is not to be recommended. Thats is of course if you want a smile like Shane McGowan. Hope your dental plan can keep pace.

BTW Kendal mint cake has some seriously bad associations with certain outdoor types in the UK called Rambling Hikers

i'm seeing lots of good ideas here..i would prefer to buy
the real thing--no outside coating, just the white and brown
bars of pure sugar and pepermint..trying to make something
like this i assume would be hard to do unless you really
knew how to make candy..i would go in on a group buy if
someone could find a source on this side of the pond..

Do you have a US distributor for Kendalls mint-cake?
Our group has been trying to find one, but, as yet, we have failed to find one.
Thanks

That's some excellent research. It would appear that site does overseas shipping. For those of us that have not tried them, what versions are the best? I assume for long-term or warm storage, you should stay away from the chocolate bars.

Craig.
