I play with the contents of the tins constantly, but that's what's in there right now. I, too, hope these will get me the 50' to my car and the more complete PSK and FAK in the trunk.

Given that the recent steam explosion in NYC happened literally right as I was walking in the area, the thing I learned that is most important is the ability to RUN either TO or AWAY from the emergency.

Just to derail the topic slightly, am I the only one who has some thing of a reputation for, shall we say, being resourceful?

I ask, because as some of you have probably heard, we are having a spot of bother with the weather in the U.K. at the moment. The warehouse I work in was flooded. Second time it has happened. First time was when one of my colleges managed to decapitate a main pipe for the sprinkler system. Which the pump house read as a fire when the system pressure dropped. With predictable results. 4" of water in less than 2 min's. And rising. we wound up with just under 6". Even with it flowing out of all the doors. We had to move quite a lot of stock VERY quickly. Unlike some of my colleges I had the common to put plastic bags over my boots. Just by way of keeping my feet dry. And warm. I am still getting abuse about it two years later. It's not my fault that some of my workmates are too thick to pour p...... out of a boot.
The whole event has become known as The Great Flood.

This time round it was the weather. I had the good fortune to be in a differant warehouse, up hill. Didn't know about it untill after. However one of the resident wit's wanders up to me the next day and observes that he was some what surprised by my absence. He was expecting me to sail past him on a raft that I had wipped up out of a pallet, some plastic sheeting and some tape..........

Now had there been Office Totty trapped by the rising waters.....

Not that's a keychain. Imagine, mine has only ...keys...

I know Teacher, but some of these things have come in handy from time to time. I've had to use the lighter more frequently than I thought, the light and compass,tweezers,gerber,usb drives,keys,nail clipper and lock pick I use actually quite a lot. Really the whistle and the ferro rods I don't really use. And the beauty of carrying all this stuff in your pocket is it makes a great backup boat anchor for a big boat.

Where did you get such a nice lockpick tool?

Mine is not that impressive and yet incomplete. I have much more in my ScotteVest pockets though. Sorry for the image quality, no good camera at hands.

You notice everyone else has a flashlight in their kit? Try getting anywhere in a strong wind with your bic and matches. If I could carry only one surivival item it would be a flashlight.

Well, let's see:

Wallet (actually overstretched leather card case) with I.D.'s, various credit cards, mini list (as in small font) of meds that my wife and I take, mini-list of important serial numbers (goodies like weapons, cameras, etc, just in case they should come up missing), and quite a bit of hide-out cash ($20 or so won't get you much these days); pen and pocked notebook; at least two pocket packs of Kleenex; two bandanas; Surefire G2 two spare C123 batteries; Leatherman New Wave; Leatherman Micra on ring with a Uncle Bills Sliver Gripper and a little metal toothpick; money clip with cash; usually Kahr MK40 with spare mag; red dog tag with my really important meds, ACR whistle and photon on the chain; pull-apart keyring with every important key, including a handcuff key (still got a few pair of cuffs around too), and a Proto screwdriver. Just for sentimental reasons, my orignial USAF dog tag, and my wifes original USN dog tags. Cell phone (with the ringer turned off. Hate phones ringing all over the place). Probably more, but that is all that comes to mind at the moment. Did I mention that I really like cargo pants???

I teach at an all-girls high school (ages 14 - 18 here in the former colonies)and I'm the first or second teacher that they seek out when they have a flat tire or dead battery. My fellow teachers also seek me out when they are having equipment malfunctions. I recently received acclaim when I cleared a jammed photocopier with my photon II, Leatherman Squirt S4 and a coat hanger. My colleagues know that I always have some tools, duct tape, and other ETS type stuff locked away in my classroom.

It's a terrible burden sometimes, but being the dependable one does have some rewards. When my wife kisses me and say's that I'm her hero, well, that's something that money can't buy.

You know when your EDC is too much when you start carrying spare keys for other peoples vehicles!
