There's an article in today's Oregonian (local paper)- Odds grim after 2 days lost.

I don't think there's anything that surprising in there that we haven't heard on this forum before. It is kind of cool when you hear actual statistical research going into past events. Here they studied outcomes of over 4,000 search and rescue operations in Oregon. They didn't take into account physical conditioning, experience, nor survival gear. Didn't have the stats.

It seemed the summer months were worse off in outcome. Possibly because there are more hikers then?

The main lesson anyone can take away is to file a plan ahead of time, and if some is suspected of missing, get started sooner than later.
