It has a freaky-bright setting (135 lumen!), especially considering it uses simple AA batteries instead of those funky lithium 123A things. And at $53, it just seems amazing. As soon as my wife lets me, I'm getting one.

Operation:
Fully press to switch on and turn the bezel to select General Mode or Turbo Mode. A soft press anytime while the light is on will change the brightness levels within a mode.

I have one, and it really is a nice light. See this review on candlepowerforums for a runtime graph. The graph of the L2D's low mode is amazing - ~59 hours on alkalines, and its low mode should be brighter than most button-cell keychain LED lights.

Great. Thanks a lot... now I have to go buy ANOTHER flashlight I like my surefire, but it does eat the batteries.

I have one and really like it. Mine goes hiking and camping with me. I will be camping this weekend. If I remember, I will try to get a long distance beam shot with a daytime picture for comparison. I know just the spot to do it too.

My Surefire is relegated to my every day urban carry messenger bag.

You've already gotten the candlepowerforum link so I won't repeat it. But one thing that seems to come up quite often over there are the inflated lumen ratings that most of the munufacturers give. The only exception for inflated ratings seem to be Surefire and HDS which both seem to use minimum performance ratings. An example that came up recently was someone compared their Surefire U2 which is rated at 100 lumens to a Fenix at 135 lumens and the Surefire was brighter. I'm not saying to not buy the Fenix or bashing it in particular, just the performance ratings are optimistic at best.

HDS/Novatec will be releasing their new line sometime in the next month or two. One of the things they are supposed to have is a plastic bodied version of their top of the line Ultimate models. A little bigger because they need it for the strength but with the same user interface adjustable levels. No idea on price yet, but if it lives up to the HDS name it will be an awsome light. I have a U60XR and it is an unbelievable light. Probably the toughest commercially made light available, see or search for a demo model they named Pummel. They've let people at trade shows throw it at concrete walls full power. Over 200 times now, it looks like it went through a grinder but it still works.

Reading some reviews of lights with the Cree 7090 XR-E LED, it appears that it delivers twice the lumens for the same runtime as a Luxeon LED. I've resisted buying a Fenix simply because I have too many other good lights, but I decided to get the L2D CE -- common AA batteries; dim, medium & bright and a super bright strobe mode. Thanks for mentioning it.

After reading this thread I bought a Fenix L2D CE from eBay; it arrived today -- nice light. 135 lumens is really bright even viewed in daylight I won't use that mode much, 9 & 40 lumens should be plenty for my normal needs and will give great battery life. 80 & 135 lumen modes are for short term critical events as are the SOS and strobe.

Nice thing about the L2D CE is that its versatility allows one light to fill roles from dim to super bright -- very useful.

What price? The prices I'm seeing on ebay are $54; only $1 cheaper than buing at the online store.

Anyone find it for cheaper?

$53.50 seems to be the going price. That's what I paid plus $5 shipping, and the seller through in batteries and a keyring light. That isn't cheap by any means, but I figured the versatility and the fact that it runs on common AA alkaline batteries made it worth the premium.
