Good place to practice in Northern AZ? - 03/05/07 07:54 PM

I've loved reading this forum for over a year, and it's time to join the fray.

I'm taking my two nephews (age 20 and 17) to the White mtns. for some practice.

Anyone know the area well and can recommend a good spot?

Our preferences:

Low traffic
Bait fishing allowed
Mix of riparian and pine

I looked up the regs at Arizona's fish and game site and it appears that snaring non-game animals is o.k., (not reptiles, which requires a hunting license). Do we need a hunting license to set snares? We will all have fishing licenses.

I don't know where the White Cloud Mountains are in AZ (could you be refering to the White Mountains?).

You do need a hunting licesnse to trap in AZ, but I believe the season is over Feb 28th. You can go to www.azgfd.gov and look up the regs. You can set up a snare to show how... but you cannot leave it unattended.

You can set up your snare and use light sewing thred for the noose, If you get something that springs your trap, it will break the thred and you will know it works. This time of year the white Mountian are Cold, be prepared.
