After a long while I just bought the movie 'The Edge' on VCD. It was quite an interesting movie in which I learned a few points.

1. The Knife is the single most important tool.
2. Dress for the climate you are going to & flying over
3. Means of starting a fire are critical
4. Survival is a mindset
5. Always leave word for where you are going and when you'll be expected back, so that someone will know when to send out the search party.
6. Stay in one spot and hug a tree so that the search party can find you.
7. Carry a PSK
8. Carry a First aid kit
9. And most importantly DONT MESS WITH BART THE BEAR!!

I agree! The Edge is a very good movie. Your observations are accurate. Every good survival manual( Military and Civilian) stresses the number one factor that is critical to effective and efficient survival is the Phycology of Survival. The second factor is be prepared and the 3rd, 4th and 5th factors are practice, practice, and practice.

I was priveleged to meet Bart the Bear before his sad death to cancer. Knowing and meeting several actors locally, I can attest he was the best mannered and probably less of a threat on our local trails. It was a good movie. Richard Dean Anderson does indeed cary a SAK ( discreetly, after seeing what Paul Hogan goes through with "now thats a knife" in restaurants.)
