If you are standing on the North Pole, which direction are you facing?

Forward, or Ahead.. No matter which direction you are facing, for the first step, your heading south, after the first step your back into a four direction compass (in theory), but if you keep going in a straight line you'll still end up at the south pole (you'd just be following your facing longitude) so the answer, in general, would be south.

I think the magnetc north pole is over water. So, if you are standing there, you are a better man than I.
As far as geographical north; depends on which room in the Claus' house you are in <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

the magnetic north pole actualy moves, so you can't realy stand on it. but the true north pole you would have a problem, east-west is at 90 degrees to the north-south line, and you are on it, you would then be facing east-west because you are facing 90 degrees to the line, if you looked up it would be north, and south if you looked down.

ok bad explanation, if i ever get around to fining a way to post a drawing of this i might be able to explain better. till then you are gonna have to be confused. it is marmite, you get it or you don't.

Geomagnetic Reversal - 12/12/06 08:30 PM

To let everyone know just how much the magnetic poles can move, check out the Wikipedia article on Geomagnetic Reversal. This explains the phenomenon in which, over Earth's history of millions and millions of years, the magnetic poles have completely reversed themselves. North becomes South and South becomes North.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any scaremongering movies or news articles about this phenomenon yet!

There's already been a great deal of chats concerning this in many circles. We're approximately 10,000 years overdue and all indicators are that the process has started.
It will happen quite quickly once it crosses over the tipping point but in the meantime, all mapped variations are rapidly being changed since the magnetic north pole has already left Canada.

unfortunately, you're wrong.
You're standing on the True north pole (90 degrees north), what direction are you facing?
