what saws do you use?

what saws do you use? - 11/18/06 08:20 PM

like it says what kind of saws(or wood cutting tool) do you use for your kits,etc...?

I use a hacksaw blade.my opinion- i find these very reliable, ive had one for 10 years and it still cuts excellent, its thin, cuts fast, although with heavy use its possible it could break, but ive never had that happened so i put one in my bob.i cover one side with duck tape to prevent hand injury or i can take it off and create other variations.

i have a wire survival saw...forgot the maker. havent tried it but i might ths winter.

a hatchet-its next to my bob if i need it but its totaly optional.

i think my SAK has a saw.

but my choice is hacksaw blade.why? well i just like them and they work well for me. i want to get a blade and cut it in half so it can fit in my medium kit and then i would cut the other half into smaller halfs for use in my 2 psk's.

I use a sawsall 6in. wood and a sawsall 6in. bi metal blades. In my larger kit I use the 11in. of the same blades. With a larger kit you can carry a handle, but for the med. size kit I wrap the in with duct tape. or make a handle from wood and lock it in with snare wire.

On my person, I will have a multi-tool or SAK. In my pack is a Gerber folding saw.

"... want to get a blade and cut it in half..."

You can easliy break a hacksaw blade. Just put in in a vise (or grip it tightly with pliers) where you want it to break and either whack it close with a hammer, or snap it (carefully) by hand...

I normally use my Bahco Laplander folding saw. Awesome saw.

Otherwise, i'll just use the saw on my Victorinox One-handed Trekker (for smaller branches).

On person - Leatherman Supertool (has an excellent saw blade)
PSK - BCB wire saw with para cord handles
BOB - folding sven saw (You had better have gloves in your kit)

In the PSK and BOB I also have a couple of very aggresive jig saw blades, can't remember the make at this point.

Being from the Northwest and having my own wood lot, I have many hand and power saws. However for my larger winter kit I carry a Trail Blazer take down saw. I use this saw with a bone blade when hunting. With very little effort, I can fit two blades into the handle, either an extra wood blade or bone blade.

supermark,

Please remove your racist tag: "viva la raza". How would you like it if I had a tag of "viva the white race"? <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I like the Gerber Sportsman's Saw. It fits nicely in my Camelbak and works great! I have cut a lot of wood with it and I am always amazed at how well it works. A two handed hold works well for cutting thick limbs.

The saw on my Leatherman Charge Ti works great for small cutting task.

umm how is it racist? viva la raza is nothing bad, its part of my heritage and what i grew up on. i dont mean to disrespect to anyone , im just expressing my pride. im sorry if you dont like that.
if u had viva la white race i probally wouldnt say anything, i try to stay out of people's business unless its a racial attack to me. which believe me has happened to me more than once in my life.i was born and raised in this great country and i love it just as much if not a little more.i dont like to seperate people into different categories I believe we are all God's children on this beautiful planet.I have an equal pride and love for everything.
no disrespect to my people, americans,or anyone i was just putting it there.

It always amazes me when someone points the "you are racist" finger at someone else. I usually find that the finger-pointer either doesn't know or doesn't care.
From what I understand, "La Raza" is a term used to denote, for me anyway, a survival-oriented 'philosophy of oneness' between all peoples, for the benefit of all peoples.
"La Raza is a Spanish-language phrase which, while literally translated as the race, is more often used as a synonym of "el pueblo" or "la gente", both of which mean "the people". It is used to denote the people of Latin America who share the cultural and political legacies of Spanish colonialism, including the Spanish language and culture. Often, the term "La Raza" also encompasses a racial significance associated with "mestizaje", or race-mixing.
In this sense, "La Raza" is a term that is inclusive of all the racial identities that compose the Iberian peninsula, including Arabs and Spanish people, as well as the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, the descendents of African peoples brought to Latin America as slaves, European immigrants, and all the mixtures therebetween.
In his 1925 essay La Raza Cósmica, Mexican philosopher José Vasconcelos draws on the idea of the cultural synthesis propelled by Latin American racial mixing as a source of strength and hope for Latin Americans and for humanity as a whole."

Re: what saws do you use? - 11/22/06 04:35 PM

I must have been thinking of this la raza:

Jose Angel Gutierrez is the Director of Mexican-American Studies Center at the University of Texas at Arlington. He's also the founder of La Raza Unida, and author of the book, "How to Handle Gringos." Any other professor at a university would be fired for making genuine racist statements like these in public. Guitierrez goes far beyond the occasional slip of the tongue, and advocated the genocide of White Americans. This is a Mexican who has promoted violence and hatred against Whites since the 1970's. He repeats the theme of extermination, paraphrasing them at public venues hosted by other militant Aztlan secessionists. Jose Gutierrez has been linked to almost every PHRASECENSOREDPOSTERSHOULDKNOWBETTER. backed movement in North and South America.

Craig,

Yeah, that's been my experiences with la Raza here in Houston. Mobs marching and chanting they are going to take this land back to Mexico... Peace and Oneness are nice, but this chant has a dark side.

I'm not taking sides, but there are christians and there are true christians. Same with La Raza. There are people and there are true people. It is always a shame when evil hides behind a good name.

Re: what saws do you use? - 11/23/06 02:20 PM

I think it was Shaw who stated "Christianity is a great idea. Too bad nobody has ever tried it." I believe the same tends to apply to any organized religion or organization that stakes a "moral" position. If the organization or group is claiming the moral high ground, where does the opposition, by necessity, stand? History is replete with "moral" movements demonizing their opponents.

PS How do you differentiate between Christians and "true" Christians?

PS, I have been telepathically broadcasting that information for years now.
