Diplomat Zero Gravity Pen? - 03/06/02 12:53 PM

Re: Need for "maximum capability" pen in PSK<br><br>Does anyone have experience with the Diplomat 0 Gravity pen? In a local Office Depot, it was next to the Fisher Space Pen, and looked as if it were intended to fill the same function (any angle, really wide operating termperature, etc.). And (drum roll, please) it was about half the length of the Fisher.<br><br>Alan

I saw two Diplomat pens. The one I was considering was the size of the Fisher Bullet model. Anyone have experience with the Diplomat claims of useability?<br><br>Alan

[color:"#660000"]Er, the image tags in my previous post in this thread were directed to the wrong location. Consequently, they don't show up. This is a year and a half old, but I only just realized I could simply repost my edited reply with the correct image tags. (D'oh!) It may be perhaps a bit anal retentive, but I'm going to do it just so I can stop thinking about it. <img src="images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Naturally, I had to add a little bit while I was at it. <img src="images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />[/color]

[color:"#000066"]Alan,
They are the only pens I could find when I did a web search for "Diplomat" and "Zero Gravity Pen" at the time. Are these the pens you are referring to?

If so, then they may be half the size of a full sized Fisher pen, but they look like they would be about the same as the Fisher Bullet pen.

Of course, comparing images I snagged off the web can be misleading. My bullet pen is about 3 5/8" long. How long is the Zero Gravity Pen you wrote of?
In either case, it would take up less room in a PSK if you just bought and carried the refill ink cartridge, and forgot about the pen body.[/color]

[color:"#660000"]Since making my original post on this thread, I have also found these images of the "Fisher Diplomat Zero Gravity Spacetec", another "Space Pen" from Fisher. Perhaps these are the pens you were referring to?

These pen also looks to be "about half the size (length)" of the (full-sized) Fisher Space Pens...

...which doesn't matter at all if you just use the refills, because they're all the same (short) size.
So, to maybe - sort of - answer your original question:
No, I have no experience with any pen called a "Diplomat", and...
Yes, I have experience with the ink cartridges used in all of the Fisher pens, and I love them. I carry one as a part of my Every Day Carry gear and I pack them in kits (just the refills for small kits). My experience is that the medium point refills tend to leak just a tiny drop onto the tip when carried in my back pocket for long periods of time. They don't seem to do this in kits ... just in my back pocket. It's more of a nuisance than a real problem, but I'd recommend the Fine tip refills for EDC, just to avoid getting a dab of ink on your fingertips.
If you're still lurking around, Alan, I hope this helps.

Stay safe,
J.T. [/color]
