Wondering how many people here are emergency responders of any kind. Kindly reply to the poll below!

I used to be an Army medic and county EMT, but I haven't been current for over 10 years.

I am a SAR volunteer with some first-aid, survival, radio comms, crime scene preservation, crisis management, public relations and other kinds of training required to do the job well.

I'm definately not an EMT, but I believe you should add a poll option for SAR type of work because I think I might be a little more qualified than the average joe nonetheless. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The "other public service agency" selecion should fit that bill.

I was going to ask if retired counts...

Other: WFR (not sure if that counts, but I'm certified through NOLS/WMI and am a member of the Wilderness Medical Society).

Under "Other" I would list the true geeks of the emergency services world... The Amateur Radio operators of RACES and ARES.

Although I was a paramedic and worked in the back of an ambulance for about 15 years, I am no longer certified. My ambulance duties ended about 12 years ago - about the time the kids really started taking over my life! So I voted "Not a member of a public safety agency".

I would NOT put ARES/RACES under responder, and I'm speaking as an AEC, and ex-EC of my area (along with ex-RACES officer)

It's stressed over and over "WE ARE NOT FIRST RESPONDERS"

I put down "not a responder" - even if I carry Red Cross ID in addition to the above

We are folks who provide support TO repsonders - NOT responders

It's not my day job, but I've served almost a dozen volunteer disaster relief roles with: Red Cross, Salvation Army, ARES / RACES, county emergency management, UMCOR, and CERT. They're a nice healthy outlet for all that obsessive-compulsive survivalist thinking.
