Leatherman Squirt

I've just recieved my Leatherman Squirt P4 today. Absolutely love it!!
It will get a special place on my EDC keychain. Leatherman is great!

I would buy one if the file was a saw like the saw they have on the wave. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to cut down sprouts to build a lean-to with the saw.

I have one too. Get's used when I don't think pulling out my Wave is a good idea. Build quality is as good as you could wish for.

At lunch I looked at one at Bass Pro. Didn't realize it was that small - would be easy to carry as part of key chain.

...and it weighs almost nothing...and the pliers actually work.

I took one on a two week backpacking trip in NM and my wife said "whadya gonna do with that thing?"

Well, one of the boy's packs broke. We used some wire, the wire cutter and the pliers to fix it. Probably could have done it without, but it was a better and faster repair with it.

Anyone carry and use one of these in a casual suburban office environment? I was wondering what the reactions were.

mine rides on my minimalist keychain...neck lanyard with detachable keychain for the times that I don't have my belt on where my usual keychain rides. Haven't been able to get a good edge on the knife blade yet...

don't have a squirt, but i do have micra. I carry it all the time at school and it has been carried by me, inside a ambassy, ministery, police office, millitary base and more places. Have yet to receive any negative reaction yet. Just a joke once in awhile.

The micra is only available with scissors, right??

Even women are carrying SAKs these days. They're just a handy tool to have around to help with lifes little everyday adversities. What kind of office is this anyway? Are there specially trained and certified individuals that are allowed to use letter openers? And that paper shear... (oh wait, that was removed last week 'cause it was a safety hazard).

You know, I joke about this, but: We've got a group at work that goes 24/7 in rotating shifts, so they've got a small kitchen for weekends and off hours. I stopped in there for a cup of coffee and there was woman who was frantically searching for the bagel slicer so she could have a bite before going on shift. I told here: "Kitchen knives are in that drawer over there." She said: "We're not allowed to use a knife on a bagel anymore, someone cut their finger last week." So, well, yeah, I guess knives are dangerous... Sheesh.

I got two words for you: "legal liability."

Yep. The Squirt comes with pliers (P) or scissors (S). The Micra and Squirt are similar and size and carry almost the same tools. The big difference is that the Micra's all stainless while the Squirt has colored scaled on the sides and most of the tool can be accessed without opening/unfolding it.

As small as it is, I'm not sure you'd ever be able to get a usable saw blade into it.

Try a P4 and a Vic Huntsman. The SAK has the saw you want, scissors, good blades, etc. The P4 gives you the pliers, wire cutter, and in a small enough package you don't notice the weight.

Either that, or try a SwissChamp. Pliers aren't as good as the P4s, but....

I absolutlely LOVE my Leatherman Squirt P. It is tiny, yet so well made that it is very functional. It's on my keyring and hardly gets noticed until I need it, then it is quite handy. I hate going anywhere without it.

Since I work in a suit and tie and at a courthouse, I can't carry anything larger EDC. Now, it has caused me problems exactly two times with courthouse security where they didn't let me in with it. But, that is out of hundreds of times I have gone through with no problem. It depends on the court and if the guard knows me.

For the longest time I've EDC'd a CRK Mnandi in a Mission Wallet. Problem was that I also EDC'd another locking folder and the Mnandi was redundant; I have never needed it. When the Squirt P4 arrived I immediately saw that a replacement was in order and the Mnandi went back in its box.

My MW now has the Squirt alongside a Peak Matterhorn AAA replacing a Gerber Infinity Ultra AA. The package is lighter and just as (if not more) capable. Other pocket carries my RSK Mk 1.

With the recent relaxation of carry on rules from the TSA for airline travel, I wish Leatherman would make a Squirt derivative that could be carried on. A Squirt P or S without a knife or other scary blades would be well accepted by the traveling public. I have a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife (SAK) 1 gig memory stick with white LED flashlight and pen that I now carry. It gets the TSA goofs going until they realize there are no blades what so ever in it. The Squirt with blunt scissors would make the basis for a great airline TSA friendly multi tool, while my full size SAK travels in my checked luggage.

I've also used my Squirt S as my only knife on a few short backpacking trips without ill effect. If you are a low impact hiker it is all you'll need.

They're cheap enough, cut the blade off of a P4 squirt or grind a bluntness on the S4's scissors while you are at it. Try to get it a different color than the real one that you have in your checked baggage, and put a note in your bag to remind you to make the swap, and maybe a sticky note on your ticket.

Or go with any of the knock offs that you can get for like ten bucks at a big chain.

I have a leatherman "juice S2". It is the model sized between the squirt and the full sized ones. Its a great little tool. Can fit in my pocket without being too bulky, and its not too small to be useful. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants full size capability without having to wear it on a belt.

Cheap? I bought it for a retail price of 64 Euro's!!!

Mine was $30 US. I don't remember the conversion rate exactly, but 64 euros sounds a bit high to me.

It's $1.90 to £1.00 at the moment. And everything this side of the pond is twice as expensive as it is in the U.S.

I wouldn't go over 30 dollars (about 25-27 Euros, didn't look at todays rates), which might not sound cheap, but it's a lot less than air fair.

Absolutely ... it's on my keyring and I work in a corporate office out in the suburban hell of Westchester County. Nobody in my department blinks -- they know I've got a minimalist BOB under my desk, too.

Do the Juice models have locking blades or tools? It doesn't look like it from their site.

The model I have doesn't, and I am pretty sure the other models lack this feature as well.
