Doug Ritter S.E. eQ Hands-Free Multi-Light

When I designed my Doug Ritter Ultimate Aviator Survival Pak I needed a compact, very lightweight multipurpose LED flashlight/headlamp. After much searching, the light I settled on was the eQ Hands-Free Multi-Light. Of course, I did want a couple changes. I wanted to use the same "twice-as-bright" LED as the Doug Ritter MkII Special Edition Photon Freedom Micro-light and I really didn't like either of the standard case colors, black or dark blue. Yellow, easy to find if dropped, would be nice...The good news was they could give me what I wanted. The bad news; we would have to order a lot of them. Voilà! It is strange how things work out. I've just been looking at adding a headlamp to my gear...and here is an ideal one! And the price?? Unbelievable! I was scared to look at the price, then amazed when I saw how low it was! Another DR to add to my collection!

Yes, they ship to Canada. Not sure what might be considered "too much hassle," considering the relatively low cost and size of the light. But, send them an email and they'll get back to you promptly.

LOL. Afraid you're on your own for that. For some reason the stroller manufacturers were aghast at a baby stroller design that incorporated "baby's first knife" and "baby's first multi-tool." <shrug> Just never know what's going to set some folks off. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Naaaaa. You can easily buy a "Baby Glock!" (Glock 26). So knives and multi-tools should not be much of a problem after that.

Sadly the cost of shipping to the U.K makes buying one impractical. Unless Aeromedix is going to let Outdoor Code have a few?

favourlight is a brandname that has a very similair looking headlight. The brandname however isn;t printed on the package and often not even mentioned. It has a blue transparant body and rubber head. The lens and head looks slightly different. But it has a 5mm Nichia also. Unfortunatly they don't give give doug any cash, but are more availible in europe. I'm pretty sure i have seen them on a british site...

This is mine. Just like doug i wanted it to be found more easily when dropped. I added two piece of reflective tape on mine.

Would this light be acceptable for search and rescue work or is it more for emergency or just around camp type use? Thanks.

In my experience there is no one light that is good for SAR work because it depends on what you want to use the light for. For example a light which works well to illuminate at a distance might be too bright or have too much of a hot spot for effective mantracking in low light.

Most SAR folks I know carry at least 2 lights and usually one of those either has multiple intensities or multiple bulbs (either 2 different LED types or LED + Incandescant).

I have to say however that I've never used the Ritter light so I can't say what type of SAR work it would be best suited for.

Thanks for your input. I'm new to SAR and I can't decide on a headlamp. Every time I think I've decided which one to get, I change my mind. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on something that I won't be satisfied with. I suppose any light is better than no light!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm sure I won't have any more problems deciding what to get. I try to jump in with both feet but my wife keeps hanging on to one of them!
