ELAD--the "other" Israeli bandage - 05/11/06 11:20 PM
I just ran across this apparently still experimental Israeli bandage called the ELAD, or ELastic ADhesive Bandage. It won a 2005 IsraCast award for innovative science and technology developments of the year.
Basically, it looks like a sterile pad which is held in place by wrapping kitchen cling wrap around, say, a bleeding limb. Apparently it secures well to itself without sticking to wounds, hair, clothes, and provides good compression and hemorrhage control. Here's a description of the product. Interesting concept and an interesting read. Well, if you can tightly secure a pallet of irregularly shaped cargo with cling wrap, why not a bandage, right?
I have a small (5" wide) roll of cling wrap in the kitchen drawer right now. Hmmm...
