Water Filter Recommendations

I have been reading the posts on this forum for some time now, and I wanted to thank everyone for sharing their valuable information. This is my first posting.<br><br>Recently, PUR has taken three of their water filters off the market -- the Scout, Voyaguer, and Explorer models (the announcement can be read at http://www.purwater.com/camping.shtml).<br><br>If I read Doug Ritter's article correctly, he recommended the Scout. My question is: what is the second best water filter out there?

While PUR has encountered some issues, their products are still available. I spoke to PUR just last week. The outdoor and marine lines have purchased by Katadyn (as has Extream) and I would expect their new Web site to be up and running with up to date info in the next month or so. Meanwhile, I still like my Scout. Another option is the MSR line which seems good and reliable oor General Ecology if you are comfortable with their throw-away filter concept (which I don't prefer).
