what could you do with an energy bar wrapper?

what could you do with an energy bar wrapper? - 12/07/05 09:04 PM

I was talking to someone the other day, absent mindedly playing with the empty Hooah wrapper in front of me, and I wondered what they could be used for in a survival situation.

I thought perhaps a back up signalling device, or emergency patch for clothing, a tent or bike tire.

Other ideas?

-Lure to attract birds or small animals into a snare.
-Fishing lure.
-Small drinking cup.
-Does it burn? Fire starter or accelerator if so.
-Stitch a few together to make a heat reflector.
-Cut small slits, and use with string to make snowglasses (reduce snow blindness).
Water resistant wrap for something small.

Stitch a bunch together and make a hat to reflect those durn mind-control rays .....

To leave a message on, so that a thousand years from now, someone knows where you went. :P

Melt it and use it as a binder. If you had a bunch you could crumple them up and use for insulation.

This? Why I could make a hat, or a brooch, a pterodactyl...

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.

I guess that, a few days later when you are getting really really hungry, you could sniff it and pretend you are eating one...

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there, does it make a noise? I would drop the wrapper and take 3 steps forward. With my luck, an Earth First! activist would start berating me about biodiversity, a state trooper issue a citation for littering and two blue haired grandmothers from Saint Paul with a birding guide give me a good lutheran lecture. Oh, I could also make a splendid fishing lure and involve Fish and Game for good measure.

I think I remember a MacGyver episode when – faced with this very situation – he used it as a single square of TP.

checking the time stamp on your post, a question comes to my mind :
are bankers supposed to be drinking alcoholic beverages so early in the morning ....????....

Frenchy-

Was just trying to decompress after 8 hours of [forced] Christmas shopping with my wife. It was brutal.

On the positive side, told her I was going to test for ham license in January, and after a little skilled "guidance" (OK, it was blatant manipulation) on my part, she agreed to get me an Icom handheld radio for Xmas (thanks Schwert for the recommendation).

Oh, sweet light, what did you do that was so naughty? You have my deepest and truest sympathy.

-shudders- I did my Newtonmass shopping online for a reason.

cellophane can be made to make a piercing, very loud screech if you hold the edge tight just in front of pursed lips and blow. mess around with it a little and you can get good at it. it's almost as loud as a whistle

I have used a PowerBar wraper to repair a bike tire twice, makes a great boot. Gel packets work well for this also!

How about an occlusive dressing?

all my other ideas have already been posted.

Oh yeah, that's right.

I like to do that with tape grass, or reed blades. I can really get a good screech or two out before the durn thing shreds.

Anyone else try this? I bet a skilled person can squawk well over 100 db out of one.

Looking at the make-up of my flashlights; could you form a concave cone (using the reflective side of the wrapper) around a chem light to direct or magnify its candlepower? at 200 yds a dull green light that is 3 inches across is better than one that is half an inch across. Try it sometime.. take a peice of alunimum foil and form it to the inside of a funnel. Take the foil out and place a chem light in the hole at the bottom of the foil cone. then hold a chem light by itself up in the other hand and see which one is brighter at 50 or 100 yds...
