As a child of the cold war, I remember the atomic bomb films. In the 60's there was a poster that was quite popular that read something to the effect:
In case of nuclear attack
1. Move away from doors and windows
2. Crawl under desk or chair
3. Place head between knees
4. Kiss your rear goodbye (cleaned up to meet standards)

the one for nuke attack is my personal favorite:
"You will know that you are in a nuclear attack by the bright flash, loud explosion, widespread destruction, intense heat, strong winds, and the rising of a mushroom cloud"

Yup. I heard that one when I was 6 yoa and we were doing drills in the basement of my elementary School. It came from the son of a B-52 pilot, who when the teacher jumped him, said "hey, that's what my dad says."
