A Question on Flashlights - 05/27/05 12:05 AM

Greetings, I have been a lurker for a while and have been searching old posts for an answer to this question, with little luck.

Can anyone point me towards a flashlight with the following specs:
Aluminum
Tailswitch
123 Lithium Battery (single)
LED
uniform diameter (slightly larger than the battery in both dimensions)
somewhat reasonable in price ($100 give or take)

Thanx again

Some say that hds is a rip off from ARC (rip). Some say that things got stolen and we should not support HDS lights. I say it's a damn good light but a bit expensive.

Try also Surefire L1 LumaMax (L1)

And not to forget Peak lights (M c K I N L E Y S E R I E S)... Reasonably priced and relatively new.

Inova, all the way. Either an X-5 or an X-0. Check 'em out. Best made lights around. Not overpriced as such as some with the initials S-F with pretentions of 'tactical.'

i think you would find that the new Inova T1 would fit the bill
1.5W luxeon
Single CR123
Tail click switch
Uniform diameter

See the Inova Tactical Torches here

It's a great little light. Super bright. I love it.....until someone stole it....

Peter Gransee has started business again as Mega Tech Devices LLC, and soon will be taking orders for the Arc AAA Rev.4.
Twice as bright as the old, longer battery life.
$30 standard, $40 premium.
I will buy one this time, still holding on to my Arc LSH-P, but not edc anymore.
See the Candlepower forums under the Manufacturer column for more info on the rebirth of the Arc line!

I have both a Nuwaï Q3 and an Inova T1.

Q3 is shorter by 2cm (.78") ; pocket clip (a bit loose, I wouldn't bet on it...) ; no lanyard attachment ; large beam, with a hot spot in the middle ;
T1 has a more uniform body, no pocket clip ; lanyard hole ; .narrower beam, with a few black rings.

I would also put my vote in for the 3w Nuwai Q3 flashlight. You can get 2 for $52.00 from Amondotech 2 for $52 Nuwai Q3 Flashlight Offer . I have dealt with this company before and have been very happy.

I have a couple X-5s that that I love and for $30ea it's hard to beat. A little large than I would use for EDC but perfect for what I use them for which is sticking one in my BOB and one in my nightstand.

I say I agree Based on the pic and the specs it looks like a great little light. It is certainly pricey though.

I have an EDC Ultimate 60. It's totally worth it. It's like a piece of alien technology... HDS got this one right. The switch is perfect. Bright, more efficient (longer runtimes) than the Arc 4, etc.

I know they're a little over the $100 mark specified, but:

It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. -- Ferris Bueller

Re: A Question on Flashlights - 05/28/05 02:23 AM

Thanx guys, a lot. After looking over the options, I'm leaning towards the one from TAD, the CR123 1 led.

As to the EDC Ultimate 60.... its a nice piece of work and looks good, but if memory serves me, isn't it well over the $100? Like double? Cant swing that, plus a low level setting is about all I'd like to have, along with just on

**edit**
On second thought, I think the T1 will suit me for now till the new ARC replacement appears...

Thanx again =)

Re: A Question on Flashlights - 05/28/05 11:41 AM

If you choose Inova T1, you might consider the following (explanations from a guy at CPF) :
"The T2 provides more light from the same batteries for a longer time because it uses a buck circuit instead of the boost circuit the T1 uses. Buck circuits are more
efficient than boost circuits. Since they get more voltage than they need
(6V in the T2) to drive the Luxeon, they can draw lower currents from the
batteries which greatly helps to get more energy out of the battery. A boost
circuit gets too little voltage (3V in the T1), thus it must draw *more* current
than the Luxeon needs to boost the voltage.
There is really just one reason for 1-cell lights: size, in every other respect, it's a disadvantage."
So if size is not so critical, a T2 will give you more light, for a longer time, than a T1, with a same set of 2 x CR123 batteries.
