EDC Footwear???? and DUK!!!!

I was curious what types of shoes one should wear? I understand natural materials like leather and rubber, but I am more interested in brands people like. I am looking at buying pair of EDC footwear (if you will) and sort of at a lost of were to begin.

The DUK in the subject is what I started calling stuff I use at least once a day. I got tired of unpacking my PSK for that one band-aid or paper clip and my keychain was getting really heavy and the stuff in my pocket was falling out, just a plain mess at times. So I got a small Whitmans tin and put the stuff I use on a daily bases in it. D.U.K. = Daily Use Tin. The contents follow. Just thought it might help some people save their ignitions on the family car and holes in their pocket. Stay safe.

Youe use a whistle everyday?

My everyday footwear is usually a pair of black Redwing boots. I find them comfortable enough for lots of walking and they protect my feet when I ride my motorcycle. They are more water resistant than most would believe. Redwing also makes more sizes and widths than most.
My EDC is all pocket stuff so I will not have to open my PSK unless I need something out of the ordinary. My pockets usually have a SAK Vic Soldier with Aluminum scales, which are very durable it also has blades much thicker than my other SAKs, Cold Steel 4” Voyager that I find to be lots of knife for the money, Slim brass Zippo lighter, Princeton Tec Impact II LED 4 cell AAA flashlight that is waterproof to deeper than I can hold my breath and has extended burn time, Cell phone without GPS, Diamond Sharpening card (fine grit), Bandana, Band-Aids, ID, Debit cards, Useful numbers and calling card number. When I carry keys each ring has a Photon LED light and a modified Fox 40 I also have a Leatherman Micro on one ring. One of Ragnar’s Mora knives usually rides on a leather thong around my neck. I also wear an automatic watch because I got tired of my watches dieing after the batteries went dead on them or messing with getting the batteries changed in them.
Some of this is not very high tech compared to what some on this list carry but all of it is good sturdy stuff that does what I need it to do day in and day out.
Some will point out that I don’t have spare batteries for my light or that a Zippo needed to be refilled regularly. I readily acknowledge both “shortcomings” knowing that my light is used several times a week I keep fresh batteries in it and will change them at about half-life so I never have to worry about batteries. The Zippo gets filled each week before I put it into the pocket of my dress cloths to go to church so it will always fire up for me when needed.
This low-tech system lets me come and go almost anywhere with out looking like Rambo or an escapee from the Mad Max set. Added to my PSK it gives me enough capability to deal with those times Murphy tries to sneak up on me.

As for me, I do wet my whistle pretty often.

I do use my whistle quit often. I am part of a Samba group and we use it for signaling. Although I made room for it in my PSK and it might just live there to allow me to shrink to a smaller tin.

I want to try Ecco shoes. They have a good reputation and apparently fit wide feet well (I have wide feet) but a bit expensive. so you have to partly go for fit rather than brand name.

I also plan on getting leather slip-ons that I will put next to my bed for quick evacuation.

I have used a pair in my "regular rotation" of footwear. Incredibly comfortable and lightweight. Fairly rugged. Definitely worth a look.

My EDC footwear depends on what I am doing. For work I wear a pair of Belleville, steel-toe, boots. The Bellevilles are better than the Bates I used to wear. However, I would like to try a pair of Danner's considering all the great things I have heard about them. Only problem is, I don't have much choice when it comes to free boots. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The rest of the time I usually wear a pair of New Balance shoes. The pair I have right now are the only pair of shoes I have ever used that needed NO breaking in what so ever. When this pair is worn out, they will be replaced by another pair of New Balances. Good shoes, and a very fair price.

This thread brings up a good point: Have good footwear.

Keep a spare pair in your BOB and in your car. Hard to rescue, work or move without them...

New Balance 806s everywhere I can get away with them. Comfortable and tough. I keep one pair used exclusively for hiking. I can get 200 miles hiking and trail running out of a pair in a year before I replace them.

For boots, riding or shooting, I like Wellco Jungles. Lightweight, thick sole. Can't go wrong.

Work boots: Redwing all the way. Good selection, quality boots that will last for years.
