Yuppie preparedness in Egypt - 08/25/04 09:04 PM

My eldest brother (aged 20) is travelling to egypt in a weeks time to play in a hockey tournament. He has been reading up on egypt and chatting to friends who have been, and is very excited about the tour. he is my beloved brother, and i would like him to take care of himself. he doesn't really buy into the whole preparedness business, unless it looks cool or gives him status ( he can't really help it - he is a yuppie ).

So, any suggestions on helping prepare my yuppie brother to take care of himself for 2 weeks in Egypt? he has been advised on personal meds, but not much else. anybody who's been to egypt (Whisky69 )found anything out "the hard way"?

Hello,

Nothing really special. South Africa is a good start.

Have water (bottled) always with you, some change for tips, maybe a cellphone (though coverage is only for the cities-highways-northern part-river, he hopefully will not leave the beaten track) and always obey the "not recommended for tourists" advices. Without judging your brother, it is not wise to show off (like wearing expensive things, etc.) in certain parts of Cairo. (I can't really recall that exactly, it was long years ago, but I think it's still the case.)

But generally: he should not leave the group and he will be fine. Egypt is a beautiful country, he'll love it.
