When putting Wind/Water Proof matches in a PSK what striker should be put in the kit, the lid w/ striker can't be put in? How can it be done?

Does the wax or whatever they dip them in tend to gum up the striker, or do you scrape that off before striking? Never had lifeboat matches and I miss the strike anywhere matches.

Lifeboat matches are not gummy at all. The surface is lightly varnished. Aside from the reverse striking motion, after practise I can easily ignite them on any agressive matchbook striker surface. LB's burn very rapidly, and the achilles heel is the easily snapped stick. They can be a pita, but when you absolutely have to have a few seconds of uncompromised flame go Lifeboats.

Has anyone figured out what grade of wet/dry sandpaper most closely approximates the striker surface?

On a previous post, someone indicated that a rough surface was not the only thing necessary to light matches. I believe they said the striking surface also contains something else that reacts with the match head.

Yes part of the match head thats required to get it to light
is on the striker surface. Thats whats makes them safety
matches you will find that any safety match box striker will do
I use REI matches, striker surface is longer.
