Anyone know of any good tasting energy bars? Anyone have an opinion of the new Snickers energy bars?

I always preferred just a Baby Ruth. They have the highest calorie content for the weight, and with the peanuts, they ought to last in your system a little longer. I haven't found any "Energy" bar that was that much better, and certainly not much of a price comparison. The Baby Ruth will keep well if kept dry and secure. I ate one that was in my hunting survival kit last fall that was two years old and it had not hardened or melted. It got me through a 4 hour hike in fairly rough terrain okay.

All those High protein bars make me so thirsty it seems counterproductive unless I have about a quart of water to wash it down with. Granola bars are okay, but they don't seem to stay with me quite as long.

For shear mass to energy ratio, nothing beats a good wad of pemmican (not the beef jerky stuff, but the real indian food).

I like Zone bars - they're the only ones I've not tired of after having lots.

Maybe I am biased, but does anyone else here think that powerbars taste like ,well, not very nice tasting?
I bought a bunch of other bars from REI, hoping to taste them all and see what would be good in a kit.
I've got LUNA, BALANCE, Permican left. Thank goodness I finished tasting the 3 powerbars already.
I guess if you're hungry, you'd eat anything and it would be delicious.

BTW, the emergency rations by Seven Oceans don't taste good at all. Needs maybe a little sea water! UGH!

In peanut or nuts flavor. Add few M&Ms and you are in heaven.

I'm itching to try new Snickers energy bar but haven't found one around my neighborhood yet.

Clif bars are my choice, though I haven't tried many others. My 5 yr old really likes them, & my wife will even eat them without complaining (not that she complains much anyway, but...) I tend to like the ones with chocolate best, but the apple & something-or-other was pretty good, too.

Here's their web page.

Though Colin Fletcher speaks highly of Bear Valley Pemmican bars, I found the ones I tried to be a little dry, and nowhere near the flavor of the Clif bars.

REI carries most brands, but other places may be cheaper.

The inventor of energy bars just passed away . For everyday use I like most of the offerings. For serious emergency considerations I want as much nutrition for bulk as possible. Rations like MAINSTAY, Pemmican etc. will provide more value.

i used to do landscaping for a living. and let me tell you what, thats some HARD work! on a regular day, i would stop to eat probably 4-5 times a day. mostly in the truck, because lunch "breaks" were not a privlege granted all to often. thus, my meals consisted of fruit, some type of sub, and energy bars. ive run the gammet of energy bars and have whittled the competition down to 2 champions of energy.
1. Balance bars. these things are awesome. mass-wise, theyre a bit lacking, but they have about 25% of the nutrients needed packed on in em. they come in about 40 different flavors (ok, maybe 10). my favorite being chocolate/peanut butter...give em a go.
2.PowerBar HARVEST bars. serious, Powerbars are pah-reeeetty crappy. BUT, the harvest variety are off the hizzle ma nizzle (thats good!). i reccomend the apple, cherry or strawberry. they have all the nutrients a normal powerbar would have, but they taste good and have dried fruit in em. deeelish!...i will say i havent tried luna, or clif as the price and honestly, the shape dont appeal to me....i suppose its a personal decision when it comes to these types of things, as they are a luxury and dont really have a place in most PSK's. unless your lugging around a suitcase of stuff, and if that was the case i think i could think of better foodstuffs to ....stuff... in it...

Ditto on the landscaping being a full day's work, I've done a few gigs through the hall, and ya earn every penny. Talk about conditioning for a survival situation, that's it.

I must have odd tastes because I really like regular powerbars. Clif Bars are my second choice. The bear valley bars provide a lot of energy but I find that I have to choke them down because they are so dry.

Tried both kinds of Snickers energy bars (crunchy and chewy) a few weeks back. Bought one of each at the local grocery store and did a taste test. The crunchy kind aren't bad (kinda like a Powerbar Harvest bar), the chewy ones... well, let's just say what they think is "chewy" is an understatement. Overall, I'll reach for a REAL Snicker's next time.
