return of the lunchbox

return of the lunchbox - 11/11/03 05:26 AM

Forum regulars will recall the splendid steel boxes Chris ( trusbox) and Randy (Swert)arranged to bring into the US. www.asianawest.com is importing nearly identical units from India in both the familiar semi rectangular units and a round version. I wound up using mine for it's intended use. With a Esbit cooker I've prepared soups, Basmati rice and shish kabob and even a fruit cobbler. Sure beats impaling an MRE and holding it over a fire. That is the correct heating procedure

For the round version, it's better to buy the MSR stowaway pot as it has a better design.

BTW, it is made by Seagull, I guess that it is designed for the US market as I can't find that design here in Singapore.

The 555 brand is a Made in China label.

I have been trying to locate the round pots like the MSR stowaway pot here in Singapore but have not been able to.
Those tins look pretty good.

Chris,

The full line of MSR pots was available at REI last I looked. Amazing that they are made by SeaGull and not available.

Looks like they have 4 sizes now:

Take a look at REI, pick out what you want and I will get them and send them to you.

I have the smallest one, and it is a nice pot, the lid is not leak proof though.

Let me know by PM or email.

Yeah,
The distributor here didn't think that anyone here would be looking for those designs and did not bring them in.....
More hunting in the backstreets of little India today....

Take your "sherpa" stainless round pot, drill a hole in the lid.

Fit a grease nipple into the hole(with the BB and spring removed/punched out).

Half fill pot with suspect water. Attach length of rubber tube (correct size for grease nipple) and now you have a portable condenser/still....
