Hello from One Week In the Wilderness- New Series On the Way.....Thanks for finding the site.Actually, I should verify-it's a site about my show....My site is www.wildernessfilms.ca the information written about survival on the One Week site was done by the Canadian discovery Channel web site people....who aren't actually survival type people but they did their research well enough. I didn't even get much chance to look it over before it was put up. In any event that series I did was extremely successful and if you go to http://www.exn.ca//oneweekwild/ you will find my followup winter series......it was bloody cold minus 42 degrees Celsius almost every night ( thats the same in F). And yes-Chris- thankyou for noting.....I did make mistakes.....don't we all....and I try to show my own failings all the time....normal ( non survival) types appreciate this very much....I loath the survival guru mentality....If you check out the winter version you will see my folly of doing the oft taught and written about method of three full fires for a winter signal triangle on the snow.......nonsense!.... I had no energy, my fingers were freezing off.....and you can see by the air that one fire would have been just fine....but I digress....the best news of late- I just signed a deal with OLN ( outdoor Life Network) and I am about to produce a new series-9 one hour specials about survival....I will be doing much the same seven day experiences throughout North America-so anyone with interest in advising me about: Costa Rica, the deserts of California, The Florida Everglades, the Arctic,the NW Pacific coast or the Utah Canyonlands is more than welcome to contact me. I have moderate familiarity and experience with California deserts. the NorthWest (United States) Pacific Coast, and Utah Canyonlands. What sort of information are you looking for?

Glad to hear you are trying out some of the often repeated but never tried "truisms of survival".

The idea of carrying a condom as a water container was debunked here a couple of years ago. I would like to hear, see, read about actually trying some of the common myths of survival to see if they do in fact work or don't make much sense.

I've greatly enjoyed reading the journals and watching the videos of both your boreal exercises. It matters that you made - and showed - mistakes both deliberate and genuine, because that is the ground truth of how these things go almost all the time.

From my perspective, your videos are exceptionally valuable. The journals compliment the videos. Is there a legitmate way to obtain these videos from Canada Discovery so that we may show them to our Scouts on a laptop and then discuss? We do not have any connections available where we meet.

I have no criticisms whatsoever of your actions - the events you show seem as authentic as I'm sure they actually were. I have found that trying to document survival exercises for future training material to be exceptionally vexing and applaud your productions.

I taught and practiced survival a bit North of you for a few years (Alaska, north of the range) and had a few interesting memories return rather vividly, LoL - so far all fond no matter the feeling du jour at the time because so far I've survived everything <grin>. I could smell your fires...

I will figure some way to use your two Canada Discovery experiences with our Scouts, regardless, and look forward to your participation on the forum.

I really enjoyed and learned from the program, both the journal and the audiovideo presentation. I think they are much better used together. I found the experience in using the bow to start the fire especially illuminating. His discussion of and problems with the shelter were also very informative. I am looking forward to observing his other programs.

Like Tom and Willy, I would love to get a copy of the materials for our Boy Scout Troop.

Willy, congratulations on the job. I'm sure it has been rough. It's nice to hear from you again.

So, since I haven't said it yet, Les, Thanks for doing a real survival show!

happy to be connected to this forum.....first a quick answer - yes you can acquire all of my films as home videos. you would do this privtely through me but I don't think I should mention prices or anything on this forum as I don't know if that is permitted or not. I do sell to alot of Scout groups and outers clubs.
Evolute; give me some time to really get my head around the info I am looking for.......at the moment I am wrapped up in the creative develpement of the series itself......I should be rolling on acquiring my survival details soon and will try to create a file on each of the areas I am going too........quick stats.........edible plants......not so obvious dangers....etc. And in addition I still need to nail down locations..........so advice in this area will be apprectiated as well. thank you guys for your interest and kind comments now that I am connected I will post a general note to this site telling about the series at hand ang giving some more details
