Interesting to see what is included in a kit where profit is not a major consideration. This kit must have been used many times back in WWII. I wonder if there is data as to how effective it was..

This kit led to improved models. What is issued to our armed forces today?

Was a video of the new F35 Artic survival kit released back in July. Unfortunately not as detailed, but can identify some items.

Though there is what appears to be an aluminium plate with a hand hold being packed into the bag at 2:05 . Really curious to know what that is, if anyone has an idea?


Edit: googling found a partial kit list.

"The new kit also includes a raft that can be used as a shelter, wool mittens, six hand warmers that last 12 hours each, flares, a survival beacon, a space blanket and a Leatherman multitool, Wright said. The kit also includes a short saw and redesigned shovel that would fit the cramped space. The saw and shovel are used to build snow shelters."

The aluminium might be the snow shovel? I guess.

Just speculation, but maybe it's a snow shovel (maybe hinged at the bottom that folds out into a "V" shape)

Just watched most of the video that goes through the contents of this pack, narrated by the firm's founder.

I was horrified by bragging about being sure that the flashlight was equipped with alkaline(Duracell)batteries. Alkaline batteries have no place in a kit of this type. Leakage and ruining of the light is all too likely to happen. There are much better options available.

I used to use glowsticks and i have had too many failures- the stick failing to glow when first taken from the wrapped and snapped- this has occurred multiple times. Not a dependable item - actually worthless., not $350

The goggles are a good addition, but as I looked -at the model they chose, I wondered if it is compatible with the eyeglasses I usually wear - just one more example of how you should select the items to suit your personal situation.

I would be much more comfortable with a really decent multitool instead of the marginal knife and off brand multitool they picked. Lots of room for discussion in this area, but I'll bet the Skeletool CX will be more effective and weight less than their choices.

Their shovel is ludicrous. They would be better served with a mason's trowel or a hori-hori (digging knife).

Still, it's better than nothing at all.

The aluminum item should be a snow shovel. You use two hands and shovel out between your legs. Much like this one

I guess if the snow is packed enough, can cut the snow into blocks for a shelter.

Definately want your gloves using that in sub zero temperatures.
