Saw that yesterday. Excellent! Low tech works too. Anything to catch the eye of searchers.
BTW, I vaguely recall watching Gilligan's Island as a kid, and one time they spelled out "SOL" in large letters on the beach. Rescue was not forthcoming.

They could see it from space, but one of the astronauts, "Sol Tobias", thought it was just a greeting for him.
