Emergency use of a 'space blanket' - 04/24/20 02:42 PM
I ran across this article and had no idea that the "space" blanket could be so useful. I guess having them in my kit all this time was really a good idea!

Wow, that was very cool, thank you.
I have the SOS brand in my camping kit, and the larger SOS model in each of my winter coats. DEFINITELY like the alternate use!
I wonder what the tensile strength would be if you twisted it like rope?

Indeed, survival blankets are versatile, useful, light weight items. I have mostly used mine as components in improvised shelters or coverings for immobilized victims.
I would most likely use a survival blanket as padding for a one inch or wider nylon sling, which has much higher tensile strength.

I carry "sleeping bag" versions of the space blanket. They are still the thin cheap Mylar. I figure that getting completely enveloped in one is better than trying to hold it around you. It can also be used like a trash can liner as a poncho.

A para quote; it's easier to cut it, then to tape it. The blanket that is.
