Im not sure what spiderwire is,but a succesfull snare requires material that will not slip back open in a struggle. You can of course snare with just about anything, string, fishing line,or natural cordage( another use of yucca, pound the leaves into fibers and you can make cordage) with varying success.A properly snared animal is going to (hopefully)strangle very quickly before it can bite anything.

Edited by Chris Kavanaugh on 07/26/01 09:47 PM (server time).

Have you ever used alo verde as string? you tak the thorn and cut right infront of the spines and peelit down the back and take the back side of your knife and peel ur the strands and it makes pretty strong rope the apache used it to make mocasins and what not. (Please do not mind my spelling i dont like using the spell checker : ) )

Yes I have. When I was a little boy, our hemi engined Crysler blew the fan belt near the salt river. An apache cowboy rode up and braided a temporary belt out of Yucca. We drove slowly back to the gas station without incident.Just remember the cardinal rule about plant use: learn the skill, then use modern materials. It doesn't take much human activity to denude small areas.Exotic plants are exempt and may be obliterated.
