Ran across this on another forum and thought it relevant here. It is specific to Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks, but is pertinent everywhere:

Thanks, that is a good primer. Though they do mention it, maybe they should have stressed a little more that help may not come immediately, especially if conditions are poor (weather, terrain, ...).

I've always figured that even though I carry a PLB I should be ready to spend a few nights waiting, thus first aid, water, warmth, shelter ... are still critical even with a PLB.

I continue to think that shelter may be the least considered element of being prepared.
