Bear Grylls compact scout - EDC review - 08/28/12 09:32 PM

Been carrying the Bear Grylls compact scout for 2 months edc. Used strictly indoors, but its a nice size -- good for box and line cutting, with a nice first finger notch. Lacks a pocket-clip or fast opening device, otherwise just right for my needs. Runs $8-24

I recently got my son the larger Gerber BG Scout.

It has a well functioning lock mechinism which locks the blade up nice & solid (no play) and the grip is very comfortable & secure. It hasn't gotten much use yet, but overall it seems like a nice knife.

+1 for the compact scout. Bought mine on sale last winter at Home Depot. It's been in my pocket since. Very light and thin yet sturdy.

The "bear" series is a good value - I like to have several spread around, so there is one handy. Edc, first aid kit, car, etc

I'm not fond of the ever-present partial serrated edge. Who makes a similar knife with a simple plain edge?

Here's the review. I like it. Its a nice size/feel for EDC and while its not a rambo knife, it works for opening boxes at work. Mid-level quality, I'll actually end up buying several, as they fit in my small kits as backup.

Price $8-16

size: pocket, just above a pen knife

Blade: partially serrated

Uses: edc, light duty, back-up, warehouse,

Been using mine for quite awhile. Love it! Best $12.60 I've spent on a knife!

Byrd Meadowlark (larger) or Byrd Robin (smaller). Byrd is made by Spyderco.
