Me everyday carry... (input needed)

Since I carry a backpack everyday and everywhere I figured that I can create a small carry kit. Something that would save me time when going hiking or away since most of my stuff would be there already. It should be an all around kit that together with my sleeping bag or warm clothing would be all I need. Obviously it will contain bare necessities and there is no room for luxuries. Always on me I will have a Wave, Sebenza, Inova X5, Windmill lighter and two pairs of latex gloves. My kit shouldn’t be taller than 3 inches and as a platform I will use those square metal tins that AOL is being shipped in They can be used to make wind block for firw or for making a basic stove.. So I decided that I will use two of those tins for my medical and food group, I will use Windmill lighter tin for basic PSK and next to it I will attach a military strobe with space blanket.. All this will be tied with rubber bands and placed in a big Ziploc bag.

First tin (FAK):
4 band aids
2 sterile pads
1 large (3x2) band aid
4 Tylenols
4 Immodium AD
2 Antacid Pills
1 Pocket of Burn Cream
2 Pockets of antibiotic ointment
4 Pockets of wound disinfecting wipes
Tin is wrapped around with medical tape and Ziploc bag can be used as air tight dressing.


Second tin (Food)
1 bag of tea
2 sugar pockets
4 Sour candies
2 sq feet of aluminium foil
Signaling stainless steel mirror
2 pairs of rubber gloves (used for water or medical purpose)

Windmill Tin (PSK)
5 different sizes hooks with lines already attached
1 Blue Fish hook with steel line leader.
50 feet of fishing line
2 Cork floters
20 Lead Pellets for sinkers

1 Set of matches (regular paper ones)
1 Razor blade
1 Whistle (Orion)
1 PuriTab Vial
1 Photon Light
1 Luminox Compass that can be attached to my watch

Things that I’m aware of missing so far are: paracord and duct tape. I know that there is no such thing as all around kit. But since I do a lot of things on the impulse I want to be somewhat prepared because it is still better than not being prepared at all. Please feel free to make suggestions. Thank you as always,

just the usual additionsi can think of-

maybe a plastic spoon-maybe not an essential but i would definetly consider it-maybe melt half of the handle off for space!

Potasium permangenate-you get more litres of water purified than purifying tablets gram for gram and has other uses

Paper matches are useless-get some wooden ones!!!

Just a query...
Are you carrying SOUR candy due to personal preference, or is their another reason?

I often carry a small bottle of water with me. I had a previous "water, water everywhere, but n'where a drop to drink" experience, and i dont like being thirsty.

Sour candy is used to keep me awake (new lemon altoids are excelt for that) plus after extreme exercise or long runs to the point of exhaustion I find sour taste excellent way to mask nausea.

Carry more medical gloves (I only saw 2 pair). I know that infections can be sorted out at hospital but they weigh next to nothing and can easily slipped into your front pocket.
I doubt if any one is unfamiliar with the saying "better to prevent than to recover" (or summing)

I can never carry enough water, not only for myself but also for other members.
When I go out with the rest of the family they always rely on me to bring the water and food.

For your PSK several condoms or oven bags would be a good idea.

How many triangular bandages do you carry?
Anti Burn cream.
I have been told that you should never put that on a serious burn because when the patient is moved to hospital and the doctor wants to treat the wound he/she will first have to scrape the cream off.

i think the saying in engish was: beter save than sorry.
"better to prevent than to recover" i just a transalation of the dutch version. ( voorkomen is beter dan genezen )

i have seen huge mil-spec type of dressing for burns, maybe thats beter to treat serious burns than the creams...

I´d add some wire. It´s very versatile. In a pinch you can even use a snare made from it to get a fish that´s too big to be lifted by the line (don´t do it when you plan to release the fish , the fish would likely die from fungus)

Yes I just put in two triangular bandages into my kit. As far as the burn cream goes... It is more designed for 1st and maybe ocassional 2nd degree burn. Something that doesn't require hospitalization. If I encounter any serious burn my one small pocket of burn cream is not going to make a difference. Such burns are getting medical treatment that I would extend to patients in my ambulance.
