Emergency Medicine Guides?

The question was brought to mind by a recent Cool Tools post on Auerbach's Medicine for the Outdoors. The comment thread also mentions NOLS's Medicine Field Guide printed on thick, water resistant paper, and a really interesting on-line Ship captain's manual from the UK dept of transportation.

As a blue-water sailor for many years I was carrying Where there is no doctor in my emergency bag everywhere with me. What are your favorites?

_A Comprehensive Guide to Wilderness & Travel Medicine_ - Eric A. Weiss, MD

I also own and think very highly of _Where There Is No Doctor_. It's available to download for free from http://www.hesperian.org/publications_download.php along with a bunch of other good stuff.

Equally important: Training. And a bit of gear.

Another vote for Medicine for Mountaineering.

Advanced First Aid Afloat by Peter Eastman is another very good book. There's a couple of chapters in marine-only topics, but most of it's good for any occasion. Like the Medicine for Mountaineering.

A minor correction:
"Medicine for Mountaineering" was written by James Wilkerson.
James Whittaker was the first American to summit Everest.

The mistake was mine - too early in the morning....Whoever I think wrote it, it is a fine reference.

As luck would have it... lifehacker published a link to a an interesting list of emergency medicine books (the link downloads a PDF). They are all downloadable for free.

Btw, I am not affiliated w/ lifehacker:-)
