can you use senthetic ( nylon, polyester ) sacks to make a eelsack ? or do you have to use natural materials like cotton ? <br>and if you use stuffsacks to make a eelsack do you have to make a knot in the end of the sack or does the drawstrings and cordlock closhes it enough ?

I've just had a look in the book bushcraft by ray mears. all that says is you need a cloth sack.

All the references i've ever seen just said cloth so I can't see why not.

Just a thought. I've never been able to find anything out on the web about them despite all of the pages about wilderness survival. Come to that quite a few of the older skills tend to be left out such as night lining and tickling to name a few.

a eelsack is a trap to catch eels. <br>its made of a pice of cloth-sack or some some improvised closh sacks ( tide up t-shirt,etc. ). you put some leefs and stuff like that in it and some bait, closh the sack and tie it with some rope to something on land and trough the sack in some surface water ( with eels ofcorse ). wait till the next morning and pull it out and theres an meal...

i forgot to say that you have to weight it down with some rocks or something like that inside the sack...
