Kayak Dudes - 01/14/10 08:57 PM

I ran across this site this afternoon.

The Idea: Two guys kayak from Chicago Illinois to Sarasota Florida via the Chicago River, Mississippi River, and the Gulf of Mexico.

A quote from the site: "Goals are reached one step at a time. We aren't athletes, heck we aren't even in that great of shape, but we have what is most important in life; Passion."

The Kayak Dudes Site

I don't know their kayaking competency level as there's no real mention of it on the site, but many quotes like the above lead me to believe these two could get themselves into a bit of trouble.

I was wondering if someone competent in kayaking long distances on rivers and seas (meaning not me) might like to wander over there and send them an invite to the ETS forums for some good information on how to prepare for such a journey?

I think it would be awesome if they could do it, I'm just concerned they might be taking the idea lightly.

Also, You'll notice they are looking for sponsors when you get to the site. Please understand that I do not know these two young men and I am not soliciting for them.

I sent them an email with a link to the owner of Chicagoland Canoe Base, Ralph Frese. He made that journey several years back as part of a reinactment of the French Missionaries. (http://chicagolandcanoebase.com/what_we_do.html) I'm sure he can tell them exactly what they are in for!
