Pushing the button too soon - 07/09/09 02:01 PM
Found this article on a couple of people who used the PLB as an Alaskan Taxi service.
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/interior/story/858433.htmThis is one of those times where they should be billed for pushing the button.
Hum wonder if they were watching "the Alaska Experiment" before they went on there trip.

over the years there have been several storys about canoe trippers in the far north of Canada doing the same thing..lots of times it was just they were tired and wanted to go home.
Maybe these folks didn't realise that it doesn't really get dark at these latitudes at this time of the year and thought the world had come to an end.

To be deliberately contrary for a change....
They called for a rescue with the only kit they had, a SAR mission was diverted to them quickly and easily (because of the PLB) who contacted them and arranged for their air taxi to get them.
Yes not exactly an appropriate use of a PLB but would it have been better for them to wait until they were in real trouble (heat stroke, frostbite or whatever) and then had a more major rescue mission?
