Does It Matter Where Made

Does It Matter Where Made - 05/25/01 09:36 PM

I have recently had a growing number of queries asking where some item or other reviewed on ETS was made. I suspect it is at least partially a reaction to the EP3 downing/China fiasco. In any case, it often isn't an easy answer. Even many "made in the USA" products actually have some components made elsewhere, including places like China. So, I am left with a quandry about what to do going forward. Im a big boy and can make my own product inquiries. This is how companies get feedback.Yes it matters to me.The quality of this site matters as much.So please Doug, keep it on subject and leave P.C. to us individually! I'm a big boy, too, Doug, and I agree with Chris.
If I want to know where a product's made, I'll ask. We here should be about how a product functions, how to use it, and how it stands up to the rigors of use.
Origin does matter, but only as one of many factors. I have been trying to avoid Chinese made products recently (try doing THAT at a Wal-Mart...!.), but that is my choice.
There's my two cents.

......CLIFF

I would prefer to buy products made in the U.S.A. but sometimes it's not possible. I make a point to buy American. It use to make me mad when foreigners came to our country to work. Then I went to Mainland China to work and was treated with nothing but respect. Try the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers.

Regards
Bruce G.
Texas

Same as Ranger. I do not knowingly buy anything made in mainland China, for reasons that have nothing to do with economics, but it would be unfair and unreasonable to expect Doug to have to screen products by origin (we can do our own) in addition to evaluating them, and it might interfere with those evaluations.

Walter
