Welcome to the forum! I'm new here too so I will let some of the other guys point it out. They are a regular brain trust.

I'll tell you what I don't see in that picture.

Water filter (the bottled water might not be enough)
Fire making tools (may be too small to see in picture, if there)
Emergency food (MRE's, SPAM, or whatever suits your fancy)

The round, orange things are Powerflares:

The white strap thing is a tow strap:

CityBoy, if Doug bought it due to not be prepared, I'm not quite sure what the total fall out would be.

The items I don't see that may have saved Mr kim's life are
tire chains and a shovel.

OT: Speaking of PowerFlares, what is the best color LED for a Car Kit? Red, Amber, Red/Amber? Probably not white, blue or green.

Edit: Found the answer in a thread on PowerFlares -- going with three Red.

It's not a survival kit, it's a car kit designed primarily for urban driving in the middle of the 6th largest urban area of the U.S. with extremely low liklihood of an unexpected natural disaster (like earthquakes or tornados). As such it is optomized for my enviroment and likely emergency circumstances which are un likely to extend beyond a few hours stuck on the freeway under any reasonably forseeable circumstances (though there's also a PSP in the glove box). If I travel outside the local area or off highway my full survival kit goes in the car. There's no good reason to carry that on a daily basis to go down to the corner supermarket or to the airport or the like, it just takes up room I often need for cargo. I adapt my equipage as appropriate to the environment I may have to deal with. If I lived in LAX, as an example, I'd have a far more survival oriented kit in the car because the threat level (earthquakes, etc.) is far different.

Down a couple of Shiner Bock's and you develop a Texas twang right easily.

Shiner Bock's? Sounds interesting. I'm up for it. Buddy wants to take me to the flying saucer. Something like 350 beers available just screams me!

Thanks for the friendly welcome and for identifying most of the items in the picture. Unfortunately, the unidentified tools and supplies in the pictured car tool box can't really be seen in the picture, but it is great to identify the things which can be seen. I've learned somethings.

I saw another thread which gave a long list of tools for a car kit which I will also use for help in building a car kit.
