Consider yourself doing okay. In my case it's the eternal search for the perfect bag. Much more expensive...

There is no "perfection" only the search, the expense and the eternal BLISS and frustration

Canoedogs,

What do you want the cooking cup to do? What kind of heat source do you use?

Just curious.

I've gone a somewhat similar route with tents. My wife thinks I'm crazy, though each has its own use ... for the most part.

Hey,

I too am guilty of excessive outdoor equipment, my recent problem has been searching for the perfect sized recycled PSK container without dropping the big cash to buy an aluminum one. I would have been better off to have just ordered a factory made one years ago.

Re: COOKING CUP WARNING !!! - 02/03/08 12:38 AM

Your photo reminded me of a guy I met years ago, who proclaimed that "Good 'shine tastes great in anything it's served in... that the contents doesn't eat the bottom out of before you finish it."

At the time, I thought he was just joking. But since joining this forum, I have rearranged my opinion to realize that he probably wasn't.

I know I have a problem, because I think that amount of cups/pots is perfectly OK; but I need to find one of those terrific trunks so it can be the perfect container for my vehicle kit!

Re: COOKING CUP WARNING !!! - 02/03/08 02:17 AM

it's not as bad as it looks guys--some of that stuff go's
back to the late 50's--my scout cook kits--most is yard
and junk store finds and of course some is the more high
end gear that go's on the canoe trips--most of the time i
use the Peak stove carrying case/cook kit..for car camping
some of the large kits come along..and i do pick up things
that i think might make a good case for a survival kit that
can also be used to cook in..if you saw my post on the
PFD that has the survival gear in the pockets you will see
the Swiss Army canteen cup that the food is sealed in...
and that trunk--a give-away from an old guy across the street.
it's his WW Two foot locker--it still has the shipping label
on it....i did post this on another site that has more to do
with camping rather than survival and they had the same
reaction--kind of an old photo,i took it last winter when
i was getting the itch to get out canoe tripping again..

Blast,
I know the feeling.. I have *yet* to find the perfect backpack/bag. Also being on a very limited budge doesn't help.

Re: COOKING CUP WARNING !!! - 02/05/08 01:40 AM

NOTES !! NOTES??
how about these?? over 20 years worth of 3x5 cards with
notes on mostly canoe gear but could apply to survival
also..what works..how much of what to make a meal or run
a stove..clothing--sleeping bags--packs..i go thru them
once in awhile and add more as i find new bits of equiptment
and test it out--

Re: COOKING CUP WARNING !!! - 02/05/08 12:50 PM

LOL,

This reminds me of a farmer joke. I guess I am the punchline this time, you should see my dutch oven collection...let me put it this way, I could easily (and probably have a time or two) feed 100 people out of the pots I own.

Someday I will figure out how to post pics up on this here forum proper. Till then, well, a thousand words may be a bit much.

I'm not bragging here, nor am I proud of this, but I have at least that much cookware - a big weakness of mine. I've got 8-10 different varities of Sigg Tourist kits, a set of Sigg Scout pots, at least three different sets of Trangia cookware, ..................

I collect vintage backpacking gear and consequently I have more stoves, cookware, tents, bags and especially packs than I'll likely ever have time to use. Some items I've collected simply because the item is unique and rare and I know I'll never use it in the field. Some items need reconditioning before they get put to use.

I've started to slowly clean up my basement room so I can figure out what I have, the deeper I dig the more things I find that I forgot I had.

I guess I'm ready for a 12 step program.

It would appear as though your search for the perfect cup has driven you to drink...

Re: COOKING CUP WARNING !!! - 02/07/08 02:41 AM

Between Canoedogs cups and Benjammin's pots, if anyone here wants to have a wilderness wedding/BBQ, invite those two and you're covered for cooking containers and "champagne cups".

the only drink you can serve in a cup like that is moonshine smile
