EDC container

I was looking for a flat, WATERPROOF container to carry in my front pocket to contain, organize, and protect some of my smaller EDC paraphernalia.

I came across fly fishing boxes. They are perfect and inexpensive. I think this one will work best for me. The compartments are removable in 4 modules for customization and more interior space.

Externally it is 3.25" x 4.125" x 1.375" (8.3cm x 10.5cm x 3.5cm).

Looks like a less bulky, lighter Otter Box or Pelican Mini- good find!

What are the internal dimensions?

I don't know internal dimensions as mine hasn't been delivered yet.

The edges are a lot more rounded than an otter or pelican case as well, which should make it carry a lot easier.

There's a newer model (M44) that has spring loaded lids and whatnot, but it appears to waste too much internal space for me and is not modular (customizable).

The best pocket sized containers I've found are the GSI 420 and 840. They're water and crush proof and open on the end.

I used a 420 to make the equivalent of an altoids tin survival kit for myself. I can wrap paracord and duct tape around the outside and still get in. It can be tricky to get stuff in from the end but mine's pretty packed (I'd like to upgrade to the 840 but the 420 fits in my back jeans pocket too well).

That's a slick looking rig Hacksaw. I couldn't find dimensions. Could you measure yours and give a height, width, and depth? Not bad looking for $6 plus shipping.

None of my carried kit is likely to be damaged by the sort of exposure, rain water or sweat, that I'm likely to see. I would also resist putting everything in a single place. As it is, scattered among pockets, I always have something to work with.

The mini-Bic and tiny Inova LED 'key-chain', not attached to my keys, light would need the water shaken out if I was dunked but I have had them in my pockets when I got soaked in the rain and they worked fine.

3x4x1 is still almost thrice the size of an altoids tin (4.6ci). It rivals the small Pelican and Otter boxes. Even if you lose a cubic inch to rounded corners and the thickness of the plastic, once you take the organizers out it is going to hold a lot of stuff.

You could probably get a PSP in there if you went with a smaller mirror...

I zoomed in on a picture I took of it in a recent post next to some every day items so you can get perspective. I hope the picture isn't too big.


Measured it's about 5 7/8 inches long, 3 1/4 inches wide at the lid (the widest pat) and about a 1/2 inch thick. 3/4 with the cord and tape wrapped around it. It weighs about 4oz. fully loaded.

I don't use the shoulder cord it came with but the cord you see wrapped around it is tied to the case so I can make my own if I need to.

Thanks for the measurements. That one is half as thick but an inch and half longer. It might carry easier, but will hold a little less. Also, as you mentioned the stuff inside will be a little harder to access. But for about $10 shipped I'll get one to try out too.

I'm glad you guys came up with these because my pocket edc bag has been a ziplock, yes, a ziplock. It works, but something more protective would be cool.

If I am going to carry a hard side container, I would choose a waterproof one. So the first one is out for me personally.

That soft case you link to would be a good choice for a person who doesn't need and desire waterproofness.

If the dividers are removable, they might be great. But if not, the individual compartments aren't very big.

I am thinking about the soft case since it has softer edges. I would put it in a ziplock to waterproof it.

I received mine today. I got the bright orange version, figuring it would be easier to find if dropped.

I measured internal dimensions at 3 7/8" x 3 1/16" x 1 1/4".

First impression was that it was smaller than I had visualized (even though I had the measurements from the internet ). The rounded corners are great and make it carry like a bar of soap rather than a 2x4. I am carrying it on my left rear pocket and it looks exactly like a wallet. It is the same size as a well stuffed trifold wallet.

One negative is that if overstuffed, the waterseal won't be tight enough to seal, so I had to watch that.

The large compartments are 1 1/2 x 7/8" x 1/2". I removed both small compartment modules and one large compartment module, opening up half of the box for thicker items. The remaining module comes with removable dividers that can cut each compartment in half. I put those in to make 6 compartments, which hold 5 advil or 13 psuedoephedrine or 4 foam earplugs (compressed) or 1 halls cough drop.

I am happy with it, but if you need to compress a lot of things into it, the container that Hacksaw posted above may be better as the camming action of the latch may pull the lid tighter onto the seal.

Originally using it soley as a FAK wasn't my intention, but I bought a Maxpedition anemone that can carry my cell phone and other small EDC items in that.

Yet another Witz Case-like option at a good price. Available many retailers (mine from Sportsman's Warehouse just under $5). Comes with lanyard, carabiner, and some rudimentary first aid items. Identical to empty Witz Keep-It-Safe except lid is straight vs. slanted on Witz. Suspect it's manufactured by Witz. Waterproof and practically indestructible. 2.7" x 4.3" x 1.3" exterior. First Aid sticker peels off.

It looks as good as I had hoped- I've been wondering all week how well this worked for you.
