water purification tabs - 04/24/01 11:58 PM

Anyone have any experience or opinions on CHLOR-FLOC water purification tabs. I plan on using them in addition to a PUR hiker microfilter instead of iodine.

I'm not familiar with CHLOR-FLOC, but by the name I'd guess it uses chlorine as the purifying agent. I have used chlorine and it is supposed to be very effective. Are you planning on using the tablets and the filter to treat the very same water (double treatment)? If so, that sounds like overkill to me. Using a good filter alone should be sufficient and will avoid adding an unpleasant taste from chemical treatment.

Thanks!! I just got back from my journey, and for the sake of experience and my bowels, chlo-flor tabs worked well, although the filtering process involved is a pain in the buttocks!!! After two of the five days, I skipped the overkill method and just went with the water filter. No illness to speak of yet!! I'll keep you posted. By the way, I had a blast! Also, a personal thanks to Chris, I made it on my own, man!
