Have you survived a disaster? Do you know somebody who has? I wrote the cover story for Popular Mechanics October issue on the science of survival. Now I'm working on another big Popular Mechanics piece on disasters. I'm looking for people who have overcome incredible odds to survive disasters and emergencies. If you've got a lead, send it to me at John@GettingPrepared.Info

This can include people stranded at sea, people who survived a hurricane, or even somebody who was able to save his family during a house fire. Were you stuck overseas during a natural disaster or emergency? If so, tell me about it. It can even include stories about how a family dog helped save a family. I'm looking for a wide range of stories to make up this package.

If there's a theme it's that I'm looking for people who defied the odds and the doubters, and I'm especially looking for people who helped others during a disaster.

Sidebar on disaster survival gear.

Thanks!
John Galvin.

I can vouch for John as I worked with him on the Popular Mechanics survival issue. He'll get your story right and straight.

It probably doesn't count, but my employment history through this economic downturn has been one of the toughest "disasters" I have had to endure...
Maybe in a few more months, when I am living under a bridge it might be more newsworthy, despite the fact it won't be unique.
