I recently purchased a Becker Knife & Tool BK16 fixed blade knife. Its actually made by Kabar.

I've been thinking about buying one ever since they came out, and I'm glad I did.

I would describe it as the little brother of Doug's RSK Mk2 Perseverance in terms of size and construction. Heck, its almost "dainty"!

Now that I think of it, its similar in size to the Mk3, but not nearly as refined as the Mk3 (which is an awesome knife!!).

Mk2: 6" long blade, 11.375" long overall, 0.188" thick coated 1095 carbon blade, 13.2 oz, $125

Mk3: 4.5" long blade, 9.1" long overall, 0.14" thick S30V blade, 5.7 oz, $165

BK16: 4.375" long blade, 9.25" long overall, 0.17" thick coated 1095 carbon blade, 6.4 oz, about $85

Honestly, I don't tend to like many knives. I've been very fortunate to really like Doug's designs. We clearly have similar taste in knives. I felt the Becker knives were too heavy for usable outdoor knives(I also have a pre-Kabar Becker Crewman BK10), which is why I like Doug's Mk2 take on the Becker. The Becker BK16 is a design that I like - a very nice knife indeed.

Did you get an earlier model (saber grind) or the later full flat grind?

Good. That will be a really nice slicer. One is on my wish list. The flat grind will be good for food prep and still thick enough rough use....
