This hat band uses ladder rack "braid" http://www.khww.net/articles.php?article_id=85 with chinese button knot for closure and about 50' of 550 paracord:

The intriguing name of the thread made me look!

Looks pretty heavy for a hatband.

I second the question about how long it would take to get the cordage free in time of need.

If I needed quick I'd cut the loops then the whole thing could be slid off rather than unweaving I'd say maybe a few minutes

Nice job and a very distinctive hatband.

What every hat of this type needs is a good chin strap so that it doesn't become airborne at the wrong time. Any thoughts on a spiffy way to add one to the headgear?

I'll have to look regarding the brand; its not a
tilley or anything nice i don't think; but its lasted several years anyway!

Perhaps not visible in the pic; but this hat has a leather thong strap that comes through holes not visible under the band. I couldnt agree more; that has saved my hat on countless occaisions!
