The small Hebridean island of Eigg (Western Isles of Scotland) has now just been given mains electricity for the first time using a combined Solar and Wind powered station built on the island. But some of the residents, which number less than 100, are fearfull that it will lead to a loss of community spirit and there are some reservations about losing the island's reputation as an idyllic retreat.

What is quite interesting is the reservations some on the islandlanders have in what I suppose would be a TEOTWAWKI event, but in reverse

A year or two from now, they will wonder how they ever did without it. It's always easy to get used to flipping a switch.

Five years from now, it will be "I remember the old days...", like the old people now who tell the grandkids that they had to walk to school, ten miles, both ways uphill.
