As usual, ham radio is very involved with hurricane Irma. If you would like to listen, there is a youtube channel that is repeating an amateur voip network.

Go to the following url and wait a bit. Traffic is intermittant but it is one of the best ways to hear what is happening in real time.

Thanks, Nomad, glad to listen in and send best thoughts and prayers to all on the move and sheltering in place. This is a bad one. Your Canadian neighbours are thinking of you all. Stay safe.

This audio is from a world wide amateur radio linked repeater/computer system that is being used to relay information to the US National Hurricane Center. It is not for health & welfare traffic.

You will hear current weather bulletins and stations in the affected area providing weather and other information.

This is only one of very many amateur radio activities that are involved with hurricane Irma. It just happens to be one that is available to listen to via the internet.

For the past few years, I use an app named "Scanner Radio" which is which available for both Android and Apple devices.

Allows you to listen in on 1000's of emergency services and Ham Radio repeaters all over the world and is select-able by country / state / prov / county / region / city and so on.

I found this app invaluable recently while traveling and visiting during wildfire struck areas in my area.

Also forget to mention earlier about another App named "Zello"that has had much use in emergency operations after Hurricane Harvey and now Irma.

The walkie talkie app Zello , which played a major role in volunteer efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, is being downloaded by millions as Hurricane Irma approaches South Florida.

Zello is used almost exactly like a walkie talkie, except it relies on wifi and cell service, so it can support big groups of people in dispersed locations. When Harvey caused widespread devastation in and around Houston, volunteers leaned on Zello to coordinate search and rescue efforts. And people in the path of Irma seem to believe they can put the app to similar uses in this storm too.

I downloaded it this morning and seems to have a lot of promise for both small and large groups.
