I have, in pieces, my old Svea 123 stove from the 70's/80's.
I'm looking to resurrect it, but I do not know:
a) if I have all the parts
b) where to get new ones
c) even how the thing goes back together. (I think I know, but it’s been years...)
Also, I'm missing the brass windscreen, the aluminum cup/cover, and the cup handle - need a source for those, as well.

Can anybody out there help with leads, info, expertise? Much appreciated if you can.

Boy, I sure wish I could find my old SVEA 123R from the 70's! I don't know what I did with that stove.

I don't know where you can find replacement parts, but I'll be watching your thread here in case any answers pop up. And in the meantime, I'll go search the garage and basement and attic to see if I can find mine. Lot's of memories with that old stove. I can't believe I've lost it.

Cliff,

If you have photos of the parts that you do have, I think I can help you out. I own several Svea 123 and 123R's.

In terms of replacement parts, there is a little mom and pop operation in the US that sells parts for old stoves: http://packstoves.com/ They are notoriously slow, their website is awful (in my opinion), but they often have what you need. My understanding is that this is a part time gig for them in addition to their day jobs and that both are well advanced in years.

There's a more professional operation in England, http://www.base-camp.co.uk/ but you have to pay for international shipping.

You could write to Katadyn North America (Katadyn bought out Optimus a few years ago) and see what parts they might be able to provide you with.
Katadyn North America Inc.
6325 Sandburg Road
Minneapolis, MN 55427
Tel 1 800 755 6701

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Jim:

Many thanks on the leads. I found an exploded view of the 123 via packstoves.com (you were right about the site..) and was pleased to find I appear to have all the parts. Also banged about a bit on YouTube (should have done that last night... D'oh!), and found out my stove was too old to have the cleaning needle affair (which is what I thought I was missing... D'oh!x2)

Still missing the cup/"saucepan", handle, and brass windscreen/stand.

Will finish cleaning it tonight and will try to fire it up tomorrow after work. Been 25 years since it had a workout.

Cliff - I don't know much about it (although I'd love to add one to the collection).

However, this is a great site for all things camping stove, and you should either be able to find all the info you need here, or sign up and you'll get a good response to specific questions from the gang:

http://www.spiritburner.com/fusion/index.php

They have a "Fettling Forum" for fixing up and rehabbing your stove, and I'll wager you'll find most if not all the info you need there.

Good luck with it

Dave

That sounds like a cool nitch market - making parts for them. My friend Joe bought a 123, I bought an original Peak-1. For day hiking, I'll take the 123 any day, for riding around in my truck, making coffee at ham radio events, I'll take the peak 1
