For those of us who think we are the masters of the woods, watch this. Nary a locking blade in sight.

That was awesome!!! I wonder how long it actually took? I really liked the fact that there wasn't someone blabbin about every single move he made.

Thanks for posting that video.

Amazing! AMAZING!!!!

Is there any way to capture that video to my PC?

The Scouts would love to see that, but I don't have mobile internet.

Wow,

Not I. I sit here in awe and humbled. That gentleman is a true craftsman.

I wonder how many generations of knowledge have been passed down and Cesar has acquired/accumulated over the years?

For him, none is one, two or probably as many as he wants. I bet even if he didn't have a knife, he could still accomplish this with tools he would create out of the natural resources. I believe he would know a way.

Could you imagine having the opportunity to spend a day or week with him, what one could learn?

As a small aside, I especially liked when he went out to the woods again to collect the sap, how he just created a basket.

Bill, thank you for sharing this.

Since I can't view the video, I looked for the written word and found nothing except the fact that César Newashish is deceased. Pity.

if i recall this is on the Canadian Film Board site, look for the "survival in the bush" program from the 50's and watch one of Cesar's buddys start a fire by hacking open a pine log with an ax and running a splint of wood back and forth in the pitch filled center...the bear trap at the end you may want to skip---
