Driving to the library this morning with my girlfriend I remembered that when I was a kid, younger than 5, I would insist on bringing a makita screw gun with me to pre-school.

How unreal is that? I've wanted to be equipped for a long time!

My EDC in elementary and middle school was a two bladed jackknife. I and every other boy played with them at every recess....

I remember up until 4th grade I would occasionally carry a pocket knife, a friend once dropped his, the teacher saw, picked it up and said something like, "you probably shouldn't bring this to school" as she handed it back to him. I'm in my mid 20s so it wasn't even that long ago. The world has gotten a lot more uptight/ill informed since then. She realized he was a hunter and a boyscout and had good reason to carry a pocket knife, now a days a teacher would find out a kid hunts and assume he's a danger to the entire school.

I carried a SAK (I think it was a Lumberjack model) throughout middle and high school, it was just a tool then.

Concerning teachers knowing that students are hunters. I must live in a different world because my son and his friends often go hunting with their treachers. The teachers also often help the kids get ahead in class, that way they can miss a few days to a week of school to attend family deer or moose camp.
